L’Altra was formed in 1999 in Chicago with original members Lindsay Anderson, Joseph Desler Costa, Ken Dyber, and Eben English. Marc Hellner was also a regular contributor. The band released one self-titled EP and two full-length albums (Music of a Sinking Occasion and In The Afternoon) with Aesthetics Records before English and Dyber left the band.
Having decided to go on as a duo, Lindsay Anderson and Joseph Desler Costa released their third studio album Different Days in 2005 on Hefty Records. With Joshua Eustis (better known as one half of Telefon Tel Aviv) on production duties, Different Days showcases L’Altra’s lush, romantic sound and perfectly balances electronic beats, conventional instruments and Anderson and Costa’s wistful vocals. What better illustration than the album’s gorgeous opening track “Sleepless Night”?

Just a short note to introduce Entre Ríos, an alternative act from Argentina. The band, formed in 2000 in Buenos Aires, consists of Sebastián Carreras, Gabriel Lucena and Isol. They deliver dreamy electronic pop gems based on a subtle mix of pop melodies, ethereal vocals and gentle electronics.
The band have released three albums so far: Idioma Suave (2002), Sal (2002) and Onda (2005). Listen to “Si Hoy”, taken off the album Sal.

Experimental electronica outfit Lali Puna team up with Portland-based beat maker Alias and the result of this collaboration is an entrancing remix of “Alienation”, taken off Lali Puna’s fantastic new album Faking The Books (Morr Music, 2004).
Lali Puna - Alienation (Alias Remix)
A fine remix by all standards, “Alienation” sublimates the original and perfectly encapsulates the essence of Lali Puna’s music: sobriety and minimalism mixed with intense emotions. The song slowly builds up, one beat at a time, and gently leads you to its breathtaking climax (2’20”).
