London-born and Vienna-based SOHN has been making big strides in recent years. 2014 saw the release of his debut album, Tremors, a subtle mix of soulful vocals and chopped up electronic beats, which earned him rave reviews across the board.
His single “Signal”, released in September on legendary independent label 4AD, is an understated mellow number, with mesmerising vocals and swells of perfectly sampled synths. The keyboards remain firmly in the background, while the drum machine beat gives the pace as the song builds up to a awesome finish.
The song comes with a video directed by and starring Milla Jovovich. For more info, go to Sohn’s website or Facebook. Buy on
After a busy summer performing at key festivals such as Bestival, Parklife and Lovebox, Bristol-based production duo Icarus return with new track “They Are Not Like You”. This emotionally charged cut sees the brothers further refining their skills, building on the sound they developed on recent tracks “October” and “Home”.
“They Are Not Like You” kicks off with a simple looped refrain and this hypnotic voiced slowly gives way to the main vocals. The lush production features a burbling distorted bassline and Icarus’s trademark syncopated live percussion. The result is one of their finest moments to date, further cementing their sound.
Icarus will be announcing a new autumn tour very soon. Follow them on Facebook for more info and check out their music on SoundCloud. Buy the new single on
Hot on the heels of their recent remixes for Bat For Lashes and SG Lewis, British act Icarus have released a brand new track ‘October’, which represents the latest development from the Bristol-based production duo. Inspired by the sprawling nocturnal vibe of their recent sets at Fabric, ‘October’ takes a different approach from the brothers’ recent tracks – ‘Home’ (featuring Aurora), ‘Don’t Cry Wolf’ and ‘Ride This Train’ – by stripping their soundscape back to a deep house essence which ebbs and flows with creative dynamic peaks.
Icarus have already received press support from DJ, Mixmag and Bristol Live and other influential artists have also recognised their talent, with Kölsch, Lane 8 and Dave Dresden all providing remixes of Icarus’s original tracks. Their festival dates throughout the summer include Boardmasters, Glass Butter Beach, V and Bestival.

Tourist is the moniker of London-based songwriter and producer William Phillips. The classically trained musician has released three EP’s between labels Make Mine, Disclosure’s Method Records and his own Monday Records. His brand of bittersweet electronica has evolved along the years from sun-kissed chillwave to darker garage-inspired house music with cut-up vocal samples and bouncy synths. Tourist has also produced high-profile remixes for Years and Years, Haim and CHVRCHES and co-written Låpsley‘s single “Hurt Me”.
With his highly anticipated debut album U, Tourist makes a big statement and takes the listener on a fantastic journey filled with experimental beats, deep grooves and blissful melodies. Thematically it reflects on a failed relationship that ended abruptly after four years. But don’t expect sad ballads here as the album is a mostly wordless affair that will let you fill in the blanks guided only by the emotional content of theses ten tracks.
