Norwegian alternative pop outfit Highasakite recently released their highly anticipated new full length Camp Echo via Propeller Recordings. The album is influenced by the realities and horrors of war. In fact, the album’s title is even taken from the name of a detention camp at the infamous Guantanamo Bay facility.
Camp Echo is a mix of rare musical landscapes, a place of long dark shadows, sudden flashes of glittering light, brooding silences and unexpected explosions of fierce percussion.
Vocalist Ingrid Håvik has said that Camp Echo isn’t about pushing anyone toward a political philosophy but more about how war has been central in her mindset for a number of years. “There are not many love songs on the album,” Håvik said in a statement. “Because I haven’t been in that state of mind for a long time.

On the heels of her hit single “Vi Mot Världen”, Swedish songstress Veronica Maggio released her fifth studio album, Den första är alltid gratis, last month on May 6th. The title track, which can be translated as “The First One is Always Free”, was unveiled in late March and supported by a video directed by Andreas Öhman.
On the new album, Maggio breaks new ground both in terms of songwriting and production. She describes the lyrics as being more honest and personal and significantly darker than her previous material. Together with some of Sweden’s best producers and songwriters, she has translated her vision into a coarser and more distorted sound with clear pop sensibilities. Long-time collaborators Salem Al Fakir and Magnus Lidehäll return for three co-writes with Vincent Pontare and new recruits include Niki and the Dove, Klas Gullbrand amd Petter Winnberg.
Veronica Maggio is confirmed to play at Stockholms Stadion in August. More info on her official site or Facebook. Buy on
“Made Of” was first recorded in 2012 by Swedish electro/house band Nause and became a major hit in Sweden. However the version featured here is a complete rework by the hand of fellow Swedish artist Viola Martinsson and it is a far cry from the danceable euro beat of the original song.
Viola Martinsson - Made Of
This dreamy, ethereal cover of “Made Of” was recorded specifically to be used as the music theme for the Volvo campaign “Made by People”. There is no official video for the song but you can watch the long version of the ad below.

Named “Artist to watch” in 2016 by a group of Norwegian music journalists, selected to represent NRK P3 Radio at Eurosonic following two A-listed singles, Oslo-based artist Ary seems to have found her very own space among the vast landscapes of sounds and music. As well as writing and performing her own music, she is also a skilled producer. On new track “Higher”, her alluring voice thrives in a backdrop of booming beats and gripping synths.
The song is taken off Eskimo Recordings Presents: The Orange Collection, which is the latest installment in the Belgian electro label’s compilation series based around colours. Following the lauded first three chapters – Pink, Blue and Green – Eskimo once again selected 12 songs that create an effortless journey encompassing a range of sounds through indie dance, nu disco and electronica.
