NAJWA – REMIXES (Electronica/Alternative – Spain)

Najwa

Spanish actress-turned-singer Najwa Nimri made her solo debut ten years ago with the critically-acclaimed LP Carefully. Written entirely in English, the album bore the imprint of her previous collaboration with Madrid based producer Carlos Jean, with whom she released an album and two soundtracks.

After this first efftort, Najwa worked with different artists and producers (Raúl Santos, Eduardo Molinero, Wagon Cookin’) and explored different ways of making music. She somehow managed to find her own sound, highly personal and quite unique in the Spanish music industry. The results of Najwa’s artistic musings you can hear in her subsequent albums: Mayday (2003) and Walkabout (2006).

Finally, in 2010, Najwa released El Último Primate, her first Spanish-language album and also a drastic change musically. Indeed, it left behind electronic sounds and showcased a radically different sonic landscape, more intimate and organic than ever before.

ANNI B SWEET – START RESTART UNDO (Folk – Spain)

Malaga-born singer-songwriter Anni B Sweet is one of the most promising Spanish newcomers of the last few years. After releasing her debut album Start, Restart, Undo in 2009 on indie label in Subterfuge Records and conquering the hearts of thousands of fans in Spain (her debut went gold in just a few months), Anni is ready to share her very personal blend of indie folk with the rest of Europe.

Anni B Sweet - Second Hand

Anni B Sweet is the stage name of Ana Lopez, born in Malaga in 1987. She started writing music at age nine, performed with several bands in Malaga as a teenager, then moved to Madrid in search of broader roads. Influenced by Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Kate Bush and Cat Power, she composes, writes, sings and plays the guitar and, as a matter of fact, she wrote all the songs on her debut album, except for “Tumbado en mi Moqueta Azul” (the only song in Spanish) and her beautiful cover of “Take on Me”…

NAJWA – EL ÚLTIMO PRIMATE (Indie/Rock – Spain)

Actress-singer-composer Najwa Nimri started making electronic music in 1996 with Spanish music producer Carlos Jean. As Najwajean they released their first LP, No blood, in 1998. They also worked together on two soundtracks (Asfalto and Guerreros) and released a compilation in 2002. After taking time off, the duo got back together in 2008 and released their first studio album in ten years Till It Breaks.

Najwajean - Drive Me

Najwa debuted as a solo artist in 2001 with her first LP Carefully. She worked with different producers and created a whole new sound, earning her both critical acclaim and commercial success. After releasing two more albums (Mayday and Walkabout), Najwa is now taking a new step and releasing her first album sung entirely in Spanish.

Najwa - Como un animal

El Último Primate is also a drastic change musically, since it mostly leaves behind electronic sounds and showcases a radically different sonic landscape.  Acoustic guitars and live drums clearly take the lead on this new record, produced by Peter Walsh and recorded in London. The overall feeling is that of a much darker record, that truly enhances Najwa’s interpretation. More intimate and confident El Último Primate might well be her best album to date.
