Produced by Jeroen de Pessemier, “So Real” is a sweltering pop gem which will no doubt make waves at summer festivals around Europe as Oscar and the Wolf embark next month on a massive tour that will see the band play at Down the Rabbit Hole, Rock Werchter, Lollapalooza Paris, Tomorrowland and Lokerse Feesten amongst others.
Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Will Cuming, aka LANKS, recently released a 6-track extended play titled Viet Rose. Drifting between skittering electronic beats, sleek samples and more introspective piano-led numbers, this EP features previous singles “Bitter Leaf” and “Golden Age”, along with a handful of brand new tunes.
Cuming co-produced the 6-tracker alongside Andrei Eremin (Chet Faker, Hiatus Kaiyote) and invited friends and monumental talents Airling and Tom Iansek (one half of Big Scary) to contribute vocals on a couple of tracks.
Viet Rose is a beautiful display of heartfelt pop music which draws from LANKS’ rich sonic palette and will no doubt cement his reputation as one of the most gifted pop artist on the Aussie indie scene.
Enigmatic New York-based project R. Missing unveiled their debut EP last March to great reviews. Released via Terminal Echo, Unsummering explores shadowy soundscapes filled with gloomy synth lines, moody beats and hazily deadpan vocals.
Sometimes compared to The Knife, Austra or Velvet Underground, R. Missing is the latest musical venture from indie band The Ropes. Under this new moniker, vocalist Sharon Shy and musician Toppy expand on their previous palette of nihilistic Morrisey tinged lyricism and go one shade darker. Musically, fraught guitar and synth textures paint an image of an unstable world, held together only by tightly programmed electronic drum beats.
Lastlings are siblings Amy and Joshua Dowling, an indie electro duo from Gold Coast, Australia. Last March they released their second EP, Verses, on the newly launched imprint Exist Recordings, founded by Danny Harley from the Kite String Tangle. The EP features singles “You”, “Time” and brand new tune “Urges”, which is already a favourite with their ever-expanding fan base.
The pair have a particular talent for combining dreamlike pop soundscapes, elegant beats and steamy R&B grooves. This unique mix provides an ideal backdrop for Amy’s sensual, breathy vocals which make this collection of electro gems so incredibly addictive.
Lastlings explain “Verses is a collection of works that embodies our experiences over the past year. Ultimately, we hope to be able to provoke thoughts and emotions that would otherwise go unfelt and allow our listeners to draw their own conclusions based on their own imaginations.”
