KILO KISH – FRUSTRATIONS + SOLUTIONS (Soul/Electro – US)

Born in Orlando, Florida, Lakisha Kimberly Robinson, known professionally as Kilo Kish, is a singer-songwriter and visual artist. She moved to New York aged 18 to attend the Pratt Institute, but ended up later enrolling in the Fashion Institute of Technology for textile design, from which she graduated in 2012. She began to explore music when her roommates decided to set up a home studio to support their “Kool Kats Klub” project. This is how Kish initially met Matt Martians of the neo-soul band The Internet (who featured her on ‘Ode to a Dream’) and collaborated on The Jet Age of Tomorrow’s ‘Want you Still’.

Kilo Kish’s debut EP, Homeschool, was released in April 2012 and well received by critics. The EP was produced by The Internet and Pyramid Vritra of The Jet Age of Tomorrow, who also provided guest vocals on the project. Kish’s soft spoken art-rap musings, sophisticated beats, and meticulously chic finish quickly made her a critic favourite.

Two years later, Kilo Kish shared her highly anticipated second EP, Across, in collaboration with the fashion and record label Maison Kitsune, which was then followed by her first studio album, Reflections in Real Time, self-released in February 2016. ‘Frustrations + Solutions’ is taken off this record and, while it is a fairly simple track, when combined with Kish’s elegantly phrased lyrics over a digital soul background, it becomes complex and elegant.

In the past few years, besides her own solo work, Kilo Kish has also contributed guest vocals to many first class artists, including Vince Staples, Childish Gambino, George Maple, Chet Faker and many more.
