Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Gabriel Ríos relocated to Belgium with his family at an early age. Very active in the local music scene, Ríos was in various bands before starting his solo career. His first record, Ghostboy (2005), was produced by Jo Bogaert (of Technotronic) and featured a mix of Latin, hip hop, rock and electronica. The main single, “Broad Daylight,” was a sizeable hit in Belgium, as well as in the Netherlands and France.

FAN DEATH – VERONICA'S VEIL (Alt/Disco – Canada)

Fan Death hail from Vancouver and are a quirky electro disco duo. They were one of the breakout acts of ‘08, along with Empire Of The Sun. The disco revival is in full swing (see Hercules & Love Affair, Holy Ghost!, Glass Candy) and these two Canadians bring you the beats like no other.

HOME VIDEO – IT WILL BE OK (Electro/Rock – US)

Home Video is an electronic rock duo composed of Collin Ruffino and David Gross, two transplants from the misunderstood landscape of New Orleans, now living in the brooding brownstones of Brooklyn, New York. It was in New York that they were discovered by Warp Records, who put out the band’s first two releases in 2004, “That You Might” and “Citizen”, which garnered the attention of BBC Radio 1, NME and Rolling Stone.

In 2006, Defend Music released the band’s first full-length, No Certain Night or Morning, as well as a 12-inch for the single “Penguin,” which included a remix by DFA Records’ Tim Goldsworthy. From this album, Grammy-nominated DJ Sasha later picked two songs to remix for his Invol2ver compilation, which also included reworked songs from Ladytron, Thom Yorke, Telefon Tel Aviv and Apparat. Following this release, in 2009 the band released the It Will Be Ok EP, featuring the hauntingly beautiful track “I Can Make You Feel”. Stream it below and watch the video HERE.

MGMT, formerly named “The Management” (this name was already used by another artist so the band shortened it to “MGMT”), is an American musical duo based in Brooklyn, consisting of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden.

Their debut record, Oracular Spectacular, was produced by Flaming Lips’ producer Dave Fridmann. It’s synthy and poppy but still quite elaborate and indie… A real feast for the senses!

NME said: “For all its musical philandering, unbridled excess and shrouds of irony, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a record with more musical depth and warmth all year than this one”.
