LADYHAWKE – REMIXES (Electro/Indie – New Zealand)

This is not the first time we talk about Ladyhawke in these pages. The woman behind this enigmatic name, Phillipa ‘Pip’ Brown, has been a fixture of all music blogs ever since the release of her self-titled debut album in three years ago on Modular (home to  Bag Raiders, The Presets and Chromeo amongst others).

After taking a long break to record new material, Ladyhawke returned to the stage at the beginning of the month in London and subsequently played a few gigs in New Zealand and Australia. During these intimate concerts, she played songs off her eagerly-awaited new album. In her own words, these new tracks are “more guitary” and less the ‘80s synth trip that defined her acclaimed debut. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

In the meantime, why not enjoy a nice selection of remixes of Ladyhawke’s past singles, starting with a remix by London DJ Alex Metric, who turned the poppy “Paris Is Burning” into a ferocious dancefloor stomper!

Next up is a high-energy reinterpretation of “Magic” by up-and-coming DJ/producer Burns, followed by Doc Ron’s synth-heavy take on “Dusk Till Dawn”.

BURNS – SO MANY NIGHTS (House/Electro – UK)

Two months after the release of his highly anticipated fourth EP, So Many Nights, Burns is still in the spotlight. His tracks have been A-listed by major DJs around the world (Tiga, Aeroplane and Crookers to name but a few), and he’s also been receiving praise for his production work.

Having built his reputation with a series of stunning remixes for a wide range of artists, Burns has kept very busy in the past few months doing remixes for the likes of Empire of the Sun, Passion Pit, White Lies, Ladyhawke, Dizzee Rascal, Filthy Dukes, Yuksek, Calvin Harris, Late of the Pier and The Gossip.

Burns’ fourth EP, So Many Nights, was released last April on 2112 Records, showing yet again that Burns has a musical breadth beyond most of his peers. From the start it’s been clear that Burns loved to break genre boundaries and mix things up, but the depth to his productions has increased with every release.

Burns - So Many Nights (Radio Edit)

Oscillating between smooth French house, cut-up electro and downright brutal techno, Burns seems to feel comfortable with every possible genre. No wonder NME calls him “the best Scottish electro terror since Mylo” and Mixmag refers to him as “the hottest new artist of 2010″.

With recent tours of the US, UK and Australia under his belt, Burns is currently in the studio working on his debut artist album, with future dates at Glastonbury, Space Ibiza, Ibiza Rocks, the Big Chill and many more. Visit Burns on MySpace and buy his music on Beatport or  Burns

saturday nite with… BURNS

It’s getting pretty buzzy at the moment for Burns. This 24-year-old DJ has already received support from Tiga, Aeroplane and Crookers (who have playlisted his tracks) and NME has called him “the best Scottish electro terror since Mylo”.

Burns finished 2009 on a high, with remixes for Black Eyed Peas, Wolfmother, Frankmusik and Ladyhawke. A host of UK gigs led to a full UK tour with Calvin Harris and a 30 date US tour with Deadmau5.

He has now just released So Many Nights, his eagerly awaited fourth EP on 2112 Records. The EP’s four tracks show yet again that Burns has a musical breadth beyond most of his peers. His musical duality has been evident from the start, but the depth to his productions increases with every release. No wonder he’s being called by many one of the UK’s most promising electronic artists for a generation.
