Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson and his band (bassist Mishka Stein, guitarist Simon Angell and drummer Robbie Kuster) wrapped up a triumphant European tour just a couple of days ago and they are now headed back to North America for another round of gigs promoting the album Adventures in Your Own Backyard. To mark their Autumn tour, they are offering a free download of the decidedly warming, autumnal “Words in the Fire”, which showcases Watson at his singer-songwriter best, cackling with intimacy.
Patrick Watson - Words In The Fire
Adventures in Your Own Backyard, released last May on Domino Records, followed two critically-acclaimed records, including the Polaris award-winning Close To Paradise. In Patrick’s own words, the album’s title is a nod to the fact that it was recorded almost entirely in Watson’s apartment in Montreal, unlike his previous efforts which were sprawling recordings in both geography and arrangements (think Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley and Andrew Bird).
The next single from Adventures will be “Blackwind” and you can stream it right here…

Two years after their hugely successful sophomore album, gloomy electronica duo Crystal Castles (namely Alice Glass and Ethan Kath) return with “Plague”, the first single off their new full-length. Take a listen below and download it for free on Crystal Castles’ SoundCloud!
Crystal Castles - Plague
Somehow reminiscent of the band’s most famous single to date “Courtship Dating”, the haunting new track may be some kind of indication of their new sonic orientation, slightly darker and moodier. Crystal Castles’ new album, which has no title nor official release date yet, is rumored for a September release.

After the runaway success of his 2011 self-titled debut, French Canadian singer/songwriter Peter Peter is already back with his intriguing new single “Les Chemins Etoilés”, the very first taste of his forthcoming sophomore album, Une Version Améliorée de la Tristesse.
Peter Peter’s new album will be out on August 28th via Montreal-based indie label Audiogram (also home to David Giguère or Ariane Moffat) and it will feature a host of guest musicians including Adam Kinner on sax, Emmanuel Éthier on guitars and Pascal Shefteshy on production duties.

Recorded in basements, bedrooms and at the Canterbury Studio, Giants & Dreamers is an adventurous album, filled with visions of fantasy and a future that struggles between dystopia and utopia. After four years of making music with different bands and projects, Antoine Bédard (aka Montag) thought it was time to get back to his own music but he didn’t want to release a full album. He settled for a radically new concept instead, releasing new material every month in the shape of a single, a B-side, a video and a diary-type audio entry documenting his creative process.
Montag - Trip The Light Fantastic
The project, aptly dubbed Phases, has already yielded five singles (one for each month of 2012) and a handful of remixes by the likes of Memory Tapes, Pierre Crube (of Numéro# fame), Red Idiot, James Bay or Team Ghost.
Montag - New Design (Pierre Crube Remix)
Montag has also collaborated with a few special guests, including Pierre Lapointe (“P.I.E.C.E.S”) and Graham Van Pelt (“Trip The Light Fantastic”), as well as video artist Jérémie Battaglia and Mexican graphic designer Curious Flux.
