LASTLINGS – VERSES (Indie/Electronica – Australia)

Lastlings

Lastlings are siblings Amy and Joshua Dowling, an indie electro duo from Gold Coast, Australia. Last March they released their second EP, Verses, on the newly launched imprint Exist Recordings, founded by Danny Harley from the Kite String Tangle. The EP features singles “You”, “Time” and brand new tune “Urges”, which is already a favourite with their ever-expanding fan base.

The pair have a particular talent for combining dreamlike pop soundscapes, elegant beats and steamy R&B grooves. This unique mix provides an ideal backdrop for Amy’s sensual, breathy vocals which make this collection of electro gems so incredibly addictive.

Lastlings explain “Verses is a collection of works that embodies our experiences over the past year. Ultimately, we hope to be able to provoke thoughts and emotions that would otherwise go unfelt and allow our listeners to draw their own conclusions based on their own imaginations.”

Lastlings have recently been on tour with Glass Animals and RÜFÜS, as well as wrapping their first headline tour, but they’re going to be at ‘Big Pineapple Music Festival’ in May so get there.

ANORAAK – FIGURE (DreamPop – France)

Anoraak

Back after a long break, Parisian dreampop wunderkind Anoraak (aka Frédéric Rivière) has just released the brand new Figure EP on his own imprint Endless Summer Music. The opening track, “We Lost”, is a collaboration with long-time friend Slow Shiver, a new project from Italian-born LA-based Valente Bertelli. It’s a nostalgic ballad which offers the perfect balance between Anoraak’s lush synth arpeggios and Slow Shiver’s delicate vocals over a steady beat.

The EP also includes the dreamy, synth-driven “Odds Are Good”, which was featured last year on the compilation Eskimo Recordings Presents: The Orange Collection. This finely crafted tune mixes moody bass lines with 80s-tinged synths and evocative vocals to create a perfect example of sophisticated and contemplative synth pop.

YOKE LORE – HOLD ME DOWN (DreamPop – US)

Yoke Lore

Brooklyn-based project Yoke Lore is the latest musical endeavor from multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Adrian Galvin, who also happens to be a yoga teacher and an avid dancer (he co-founded NYC dance company Boomerang). After the success of debut single “Heavy Love”, which premiered on The Fader last February, Yoke Lore has just released “Hold Me Down”, the festive and highly addictive second offering from his forthcoming debut EP.

Following the project’s lyrical theme in visceral human connection and poignant storytelling, “Hold Me Down” is an uplifting piece that spotlights Galvin’s signature vocals, backed by pile-driving percussion and work guitar work. More to come from Yoke Lore this spring, so stay tuned for the debut EP Far Shore, out on May 6.

COASTAL CITIES – SUMMER REIGN (Alternative/Pop – UK)

After the sweeping success of their last single “Entropic”, indie pop 5-piece Coastal Cities are sharing a brand new tune called “Summer Reign”. This soft and dreamy number is one half of a double A-side single, which will be released on November 18th via Once Upon a Time Records.

Often compared with Two Door Cinema Club, or any number of young indie bands, Coastal Cities have been around for a few years now, delivering snappy pop songs coated in hazy synths and floating vocals. Now fresh out of college, and with this new single, Coastal Cities are bound to impress further as they take another step into the world armed with their own individual take on UK indie.
