SATELLITE STORIES – VAGABONDS (Indie – Finland)

Satellite Stories

Since their indie breakthrough with the release of their 2012 debut album Phrases To Break The Ice,  Scandinavian four piece Satellite Stories have been churning out catchy pop songs and bringing their live show to fans across the continent. This week they reveal the third song and title track from their upcoming album, Vagabonds, to be released on March 6th via XYZ Berlin Music.

Recorded last year in the UK in the Kentish countryside, Satellite Stories’ new album was prodcued by Simon “Barny” Barnicott (Arctic Monkeys, Temper Trap, Kasabian, Bombay Bicycle Club). The first tune taken off the album, “The Trap”, saw the lads streaming numbers accumulate into the millions with the single hitting over 100k within 5 days of its release and receiving accolades across the board.

Lead guitarist Marko Heikkinen explains that over the past few years of touring and writing songs in hotel rooms and airports, the band “became vagabonds going from pillar to post with no real fixed address”. This is what inspired them to make this collection of songs with no strict genre or style, just great tunes!

SATELLITE STORIES – LIGHTS GO LOW (Pop – Finland)

Finnish indie pop outfit Satellite Stories took the blogosphere by storm back in 2010 with their brilliant single “Helsinki Art Scene” and a string of equally catchy party songs. Three years down the line, they have built a solid reputation as providers of bright upbeat pop music and they are back with a brand new album, Pine Trails, released November 1st.

“Lights Go Low” is the first single taken from Pine Trails. This feel-good tune, featuring guitar riffs aplenty and bouncy drums, is a good example of the Satellite Stories’ unbridled creative energy. You can listen to at home when you want a good adrenaline rush, but it’s even better served live at a gig in a packed club…

SHINE 2009 – EUROZONE (Electro/Funk – Finland)

Finnish duo Shine 2009 return with their first new material since their 2001 debut album Realism. On this new single Sami Suova and Mikko Pykäri come off as nonchalant as ever, taking a social stance on money and the financial challenges currently gripping Europe.

Musically, “Eurozone” pulls from genres as wide as funk, breakbeat and classic house, a surprising combination that would be perfectly at home in a dark 1990s discotheque. The song is taken off Shine 2009’s sophomore album, to be released this fall on Cascine.

THE DØ – REMIXES (Indie/Alternative – Finland/France)

The Do

Formed in 2007, French/Finnish duo The Dø first grabbed the spotlight with their chart-topping debut album, A Mouthful, released in 2008 to great reviews. Three years later they delivered an ever better sequel, Both Ways Open Jaws, featuring tribal first single “Slippery Slope” and punk-pop-ish ode to vomiting “Gonna Be Sick”. Brimming with youthful exuberance, this record is a happy marriage of musical eccentricity and sharp.

For those of you who are not yet familiar with The Dø’s intriguing sound, you should get your hands on their latest album asap. And in the meantime, you might want to check out a little selection of remixes of some of the duo’s best tracks courtesy of Trentemøller, Mylo and Nasser…
