Aussie artist/producer Flume has shared a mind-blowing new tune taken off his soon-to-be-released sophomore album Skin. The song is called “Smoke & Retribution” and it features American Rapper Vince Staples and Perth-based vocalist Kučka.
This new track marks a drastic change of direction for the young artist whose 2013 debut album revolved around downtempo electro beats and pop-influenced hooks. Bolder and sharper, “Smoke and Retribution” shows yet another new side of Flume’s creative self. Over the years, he has managed to broaden his musical horizons through numerous side projects: What So Not (with friend Emoh Instead), Anna Lunoe & Flume, Flume & Chet Faker…

Sydney based duo-gone-solo-act What So Not emerged in 2011 as a collaboration between Emoh Instead and Flume, who announced a few months ago that he was quitting the long-term side-project due to creative differences. Their forthcoming Gemini EP will therefore be the last release for What So Not as a duo but the project will live on and Emoh is already touring across Australia and New Zealand promoting title track “Gemini”.
This new tune finds the pair delivering a more atmospheric track, featuring the sensual vocals of fellow Sydneysider George Maple. It’s certainly more restrained than previous bangers like “Jaguar” and RL Grime team-up “Tell Me”.

London-based duo Disclosure recently released their debut album, Settle, and it is already being hailed as a milestone in UK house music. The young pair of producers (who also happen to be brothers) cite artists like Joy Orbison, James Blake, Burial and Mount Kimbie as primary influences, describing their own early musical efforts as an attempt to blend house, UK garage, EDM and dubstep.
The album, which features previously-released singles “Latch”, “White Noise” and “You & Me”, debuted at #1 in the UK Albums Chart and received rave reviews from music critics. Disclosure have teamed up with underground heads like AlunaGeorge, Ed Macfarlane (of Friendly Fires fame), Sam Smith and a few more guest vocalists to create songs that incorporate radio-friendly pop elements while retaining credibility amongst club-goers and DJs.
