In 2015, UK electro artist Ambassadeurs (aka Mark Dobson) kept very busy with a slew of EPs and the release of his debut album Patterns on his own Lost Tribe Records imprint. Now back in the studio recording his second album, he is dropping the Halos EP in the interim to keep fans of his sound happy. The EP was written during an escape in the autumn from the city to the countryside.
The change of scenery from concrete to wilderness is reflected in the more organic sounds on this 4 tracker, which was written with the bare minimum of equipment to hand, even sampling some old cassettes that were left behind in the cottage where he was staying. The EP explores a more 4/4 sound than his debut album while still retaining the signature aesthetic of Ambassadeurs productions.

Blue Hawaii is a recording, DJ and live project from Montreal, Quebec. Created by Alex Agor Cowan and Raphaelle Standell (one third of art rock band BRAIDS), this electronic music duo released their first EP, Blooming Summer, in 2010 and debut album, Untogether, in 2013 both via Arbutus Records. They toured Europe, Asia, and North America numerous times in 2013-14. As a result of the live shows, they became deeply interested in dance music – their performance being known for transitioning into a DJ style set with improvised material including live vocal loops and lines.
In late 2014, the duo released new single “Get Happy” and a mixtape featuring edits of old songs and new song “All of My Heart”. While Standell releases and tours with BRAIDS in 2015, Cowan continues Blue Hawaii by DJing worldwide and producing new material and remixes (including one for Tei Shi).

Born in October last year, Zola Blood is a London-based 4-piece featuring Matt on vocals/guitar, Ed on synth, Sam on drums and Rob on guitar. The band announced their arrival this July with the release of hugely ambitious single “Grace”, which hit #16 on the Hype Machine and made them the 4th most blogged about artist. Having drawn early comparisons to SOHN and Rhye with “Grace”, Zola Blood are now aiming to build upon this breakthrough success with their debut EP Meridian.
Developed over a year in a windowless studio, Zola Blood’s debut EP showcases their minimal and textured sound, intricate arrangements and meticulous attention to detail. It serves up waves of ambient electronica and bubbling synths, interspersed with reverberating guitars and delicate vocals. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Arthur Russell, Portishead or Trentmøller, the band’s distinctive sound displays both a fervent appreciation of the subtleties of electronic music and a loyal bond to melody and songwriting.
Zola Blood are set to release the Meridian EP in October, with their first live show at London’s Shacklewell Arms on the 9th October. Both physical and digital releases will be available on Pond Life. In the meantime here’s a little remix of “Grace” available as a free download…

Glasgow band Laki Mera are not a band to rest on their laurels. After the success of their debut album The Proximity Effect, Laura Donnelly, Andrea Gobbi and Keir Long quickly set out to work on new material for their second album, knowing exactly what they wanted to do and spending countless hours in the studio to achieve exactly that. The result is Turn All Memory To White Noise, an album that artfully fuses electronics, strings, sampled sounds, and Laura Donnelly’s bewitching vocals.
“The fact that we’ve written it, composed it, scored the strings and the brass, and recorded it all in such a concentrated period of time, is what’s made it such an honest record,” producer/multi-instrumentalist Andrea Gobbi explains. With Turn All Memory to White Noise the Glasgow trio stay true to their own sound, a subtle mix of folktronica and trip hop, and concoct an intimate, yet exceptionally produced album that will no doubt their numerous fans.

Moderat is a collaboration between Apparat (Sascha Ring) and Modeselektor (Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary), both major figures in Berlin’s vibrant electronic scene. On their 2008 self-titled debut album, they defined the Moderat sound: throbbing bass and electrifying beats, enhanced by Apparat’s delicate vocals. Five years later, they return with a new single, “Bad Kingdom” and a beautiful album, Moderat II, released August 5 via Monkeytown Records.
An emboldened and emotional return, “Bad Kingdom” comes with a video from fellow Berliner Pfadfinderei. Moderat also collaborated with Pfadfinderei to create a new groudbreaking live show and, for the album’s cover art, they enlisted Siriusmo, who was already behind the punching woman of the first Moderat album.
To celebrate this exciting new release, let’s revisit an all time favourite: “Rusty Nails”.
