Currently based in Melbourne, Parachute Youth is the artistic pairing of Matt K Von And Jonny Castro, originally from Sydney and Adelaide respectively. Recently signed to Sweat It Out, the boys have crafted a wonderfully hypnotic big-room dance anthem, a song soaring with unbridled joy, dark melancholy and drama reverbed.
Parachute Youth – Can’t get better than this (Radio Edit)
Remixes come from an all-star team of producers including Sam La More (best known for his production work with Gwen Stefani, Beni, Pnau…), 22-year-old Australian prodigy Benson and UK duo Just Kiddin.
The single was the most highly played and requested song on Triple J Radio in the first months of 2012 and the video for the song has already received over a million hits on YouTube. Quite a start for Parachute Youth!
UK-based duo Just Kiddin have only been around for a little over a year but their originals and remixes have already featured on just about every decent music blog. On the heels of their 2011 debut EP, Seriously Part One, the boys recently released the second act, Seriously Part Two, via Top Billin Music.
Just like their previous EP, this new release is full of disco-fuelled club bangers, equally influenced by feel-good funk and French house. These guys smash genres together, sprinkle the whole thing with clean beats and come up with a sound that will please connoisseurs and casual clubbers alike.
Between recording sessions and DJ sets, Just Kiddin also find time to produce cool remixes for other artists (Steed Lord, Icebird, Nicola Roberts). If you like what you hear, here are a few more tracks for your aural pleasure.
Based in Philadelphia, Icebird is the result of a collaboration between producer Rjd2 and singer-songwriter Aaron Livingston. The pair released their debut album The Abandoned Lullaby last October 11th on Rjd2’s own label Electrical Connections.
To hype up the release, they launched a remix competition of their second single off the album “Charmed Life”. Sponsored by Native Instruments and SoundCloud, the comp yielded some pretty cool remixes, including the two awesome renditions below.
The first remix was produced by young Moscow-based designer/musician/DJ Pavel Golovkin, better known on the Muscovite club scene as Pablos. He adds a touch of glitchy electronica, bouncy handclaps and a generous helping of cosmic synths to turn the song into a perfect after-party anthem.

A recent signing on cutting-edge electro imprint Top Billin, Just Kiddin recently dropped their massive debut EP Seriously Part One. This record is the result of countless hours spent tweaking their sound in the studio to come up with just the perfect mix of house, funk and electro. They took their parents’ record collection, dug into piles of feel-good funk, soul and disco, sprinkled some 90s house and techno on top and cooked up a four-track EP with a sound so big and in your face it hardly feels like a debut.
The UK-based duo have already started making huge waves in the club scene, getting support from a host of internationally renowned DJs. Seriously Part One has been endorsed by Kissy Sell out, who featured it on his infamous BBC Radio 1 show, Russ Chimes, Fare Soldi, Bag Raiders, Kevin McKay and many more.
If Part One is any indication, then Just Kiddin are pretty serious about wanting to take over dance-floors all over the world and we can expect great things from Part Two. The boys are currently working hard on this second release, which will also contain four tracks and should be out later this year. Keep an ear out!
