saturday nite with… KIMBRA + MARK FOSTER + A-TRAK

What happens when you put NZ songstress Kimbra, Foster the People frontman Mark Foster and Quebec electro sensation A-trak in a studio for a week? They put together a ridiculously punchy new track, complete with syncopated beats and synths galore.

“Warrior” is the latest track in the Converse Three Artists – One Song series, which has seen collaborations from the likes of James Murphy, Andre 3000 and Gorillaz on “DoYaThing”, Santigold, Julian Casablancas and Pharrell Williams on “My Drive Thru” or Matt & Kim, Soulja Boy and Andrew W.K. on “I’m a Goner”.

The song was released on April 5th and it’s available as a free download from the official Converse Plug into Color website.

KIMBRA – TWO WAY STREET (ElectroPop – New Zealand)

Kiwi songstress Kimbra had a pretty great 2011, being featured on “Somebody That I Used To Know”, the Gotye song that has 46 million views on Youtube! She also won the New Zealand Critics’ Choice awards 2011 and an ARIA for Best Female Artist. On top of that Kimbra’s debut album Vows was released last summer down under and shot straight to #3 in her home country and #5 in Australia.

To kick off 2012 in high style the 21-year-old artist has just released her new single “Two Way Street” as well as a remix by Aussie minimal-house prodigy Beni, who gives the song an implacable pulsating beat to take the party right onto the dancefloor.

KIMBRA – SETTLE DOWN EP (ElectroPop – New Zealand)

Originally from NZ but now based in Melbourne, Kimbra is not your average female singer, songwriter. Inspired by a range of musical genres and artists, from Nina Simone to Bjork and Prince, she brings a modern edge to the worn sounds of soul, with a voice and artistry that belie her age.

Her debut album Vows was released in Australia last August and shot straight to #5 in the charts. Featuring producers Francois Tetaz (Architecture in Helsinki, Gotye) and M-Phazes (Amerie, Pharoahe Monch), Vows seamlessly combines jazz, soul and funk, puts them through a pop filter, and the result is a stunning first effort for the 21 year old songstress.

Beside her noteworthy chart-topping collaborations with Miami Horror (“I Look To You”) and Gotye (“Somebody That I Used To Know”), Kimbra got a lot of attention last year with the single “Settle Down”, especially after it got remixed by Penguin Prison. Check out this classy electro gem just below!

GOTYE – SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW (Alternative/Indie/Pop – Australia)

After the sweeping success of his 2006 album Like Drawing Blood, Australian singer, songwriter and drummer Gotye (born Walter De Backer) decided to take a break and put his solo career on hold for a while. He spent the next three years mainly recording and touring with Melbourne-based indie rock band The Basics, who have also enjoyed widespread success across Australia.

Finally, last March Gotye released his first new original song in four years, “Eyes Wide Open”, and announced that he was working on an album to be released before the end of the year. Anticipation for the new album, Making Mirrors, is at fever pitch following the release of Gotye’s heart-stopping new single “Somebody That I Used To Know (Featuring Kimbra)” which is currently the #1 most played song on Australian radio Triple J and #4 on the iTunes Singles Chart.

As a bonus here’s a gorgeous ambient remix of Gotye’s 2007 hit single “Heart’s a Mess”. This re-work comes courtesy of Sydney-base electronica trio RÜFÜS, a young combo that has been making huge waves in Australia and abroad in the past few months.

In support of his new album, Gotye has just announced that he will be touring Australia with a brand new 10-piece orchestra, who will recreate Gotye’s unique, sample-laden music in a completely live setting. The tour will kick off in August and last till December. Check out all the dates and venues on Gotye’s official website or MySpace. Don’t forget that you can buy all of Gotye’s music and pre-order the new album on
