Two Door Cinema Club

Four years after their sophomore album Beacon, Northern Ireland’s favourite indie pop trio Two Door Cinema Club are back with a brand new single: “Are We Ready?”. Taken from the band’s forthcoming album Gameshow, this high-energy tune was premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show and is out now!

With its bouncy bass groove and jangly guitars, joined by a children’s choir “nah nah nah”-ing at various points, the track is a sleek, uplifting slice of indie rock that will make you dance.

Two Door Cinema Club

It’s official! Northern Ireland’s favourite indie pop trio Two Door Cinema Club are back! Their highly-anticipated sophomore album, Beacon, is set to drop on September 3rd on Kitsuné / September 4th on Glassnote (US/Canada) and the first single “Sleep Alone” is already out!

After shifting over one million copies of their debut album worldwide and selling out big venues all around the world, TDCC took a step back to think about what was coming next. Last april, the band travelled to Los Angeles to record their new full-length with acclaimed producer Jacknife Lee (Bloc Party, U2, REM) in his home studio. The result stays true to the band’s energetic blend of singalong indie pop but it is somehow more ambitious and bold, showcasing a broader and more inclusive sound.

Hardcore fans will probably need something to chew on until September, so here comes a little selection of remixes from the archives…

The Bangor-based trio have been surfing a wave of success lately, with a handful of chart-topping singles and sold out gigs all across Europe. To celebrate the release of their latest single, TDCC are sharing a beautiful video, directed by Lope Serrano for CANADA. Check it out!

Hailing from Northern Ireland, Two Door Cinema Club‘s high-energy  indie pop has enough kick to electrify even the quietest of audiences. With their slick guitar progressions, infectious-as-hell baselines and hum-along choruses, the three boys from Bangor took to the stage ready to show us how it’s done in Ireland.

After opening for a number of bands including Delphic, Phoenix, Foals, Metronomy and autoKratz, they toured all over Europe in the first half of 2010, following the release of their debut album, Tourist History. They are now playing most major European festivals and on friday they stopped in Cannes for an impeccable performance.

The band is Alex Trimble (drums and vocals), Kevin Baird (bass) and Sam Halliday (guitar). They have been making music together as Two Door Cinema Club since early 2007, when they decided to give up on university places to work on their music full time. It seems they made the right decision and when we met them before their show they looked as confident and self-assured as any of the veteran bands present at the festival.

– Your debut album Tourist History is a bit of a “Guide to the perfect pop song”. How do you write your songs?

We write a lot and we spend a lot of time working on our songs. Then when we listen to them again, we pick out the best. We only keep the punchiest and the songs that really get stuck in your head. The rest we just throw away.

– How come three Irish guys from Bangor ended up signing to Parisian label Kitsuné?

We wanted to work with a relatively small label where things work on a smaller scale, more personnal. We couldn’t really find what we wanted in Ireland or in London so in the end it was a natural process. We met the people at Kitsuné and kinda grew together… It was important for us to work with people who love music just as much as we do. Really passionate people… And Kitsuné is a small company, everyone knows everyone, it’s like a big family.

– What is it like touring with Two Door Cinema Club?

A lot of time on the internet!! We spend a lot of time on the road so we get bored a lot. In the end we are also checking emails, reading messages from our fans… I think nowadays it’s a lot more fan to support a band you like. We for one are very close to our fans… But it’s still weird to see girls come to us asking for autographs and pics.

– You are tonight’s headliners with Foals. Do you know them?

We are constantly bumping into one another at festivals. We are almost like their “official support band”!! We actually hope to be able to catch a bit of their show tonight. But we actually have to take off pretty soon for another 10-hour bus ride. We won’t even get to check out the bars in Cannes…

IS TROPICAL – WHAT? (Indie/Rock/Electro – UK)

Get ready for Is Tropical! This London-based 3-piece is slowly but surely making a name for itself and 2010 is proving to be a pretty good year for them.

They have been releasing demos that have gotten them a fair amount of MySpace love and blog coverage. So much so that they recently embarked on a tour sharing bill with Good Shoes and The Big Pink and they were invited by hip French label Kitsuné to perform in Paris tonight!

Is Tropical – What? (demo)

Their newest song, “What?”, was recently released on MySpace as a demo (hence the poor quality, sorry!). It seems the trio is exploring new directions with this track while still remaining true to their sound. Is Tropical’s music stands somewhere between The Strokes, Ratatat and Friendly Fires, a mix of genres that has been described by some as a “beautifully coherent chaos.” Listen to one of their previous tracks, “The Greeks”, just below…

Is Tropical - The Greeks

Is Tropical’s credentials also include remixes for a wide range of bands, such as Crystal Fighters, Little Dragon, NewIslands and Two Door Cinema Club… Smooth beats, slick guitars and shiny synths are part of the recipe. Keep these remixes coming guys!

NewIslands - Out Of Time (Is Tropical Remix)

Is Tropical are currently on the road, bringing their awesome sound to lots of venues around Europe, and they’ll be hitting some major festivals over the summer. Be sure to check out their page on MySpace for more info and tour dates. You can also buy their single “When O’ When” on Is Tropical
