On the heels of her hit single “Vi Mot Världen”, Swedish songstress Veronica Maggio released her fifth studio album, Den första är alltid gratis, last month on May 6th. The title track, which can be translated as “The First One is Always Free”, was unveiled in late March and supported by a video directed by Andreas Öhman.
On the new album, Maggio breaks new ground both in terms of songwriting and production. She describes the lyrics as being more honest and personal and significantly darker than her previous material. Together with some of Sweden’s best producers and songwriters, she has translated her vision into a coarser and more distorted sound with clear pop sensibilities. Long-time collaborators Salem Al Fakir and Magnus Lidehäll return for three co-writes with Vincent Pontare and new recruits include Niki and the Dove, Klas Gullbrand amd Petter Winnberg.
Veronica Maggio is confirmed to play at Stockholms Stadion in August. More info on her official site or Facebook. Buy on
Swedish popstar Veronica Maggio has a new single out: “Vi Mot Världen”, which translates as “Us Against the World”. Released in Sweden as a digital download on 2 May, the song is the third and last teaser before the release of Maggio’s highly anticipated fifth studio album Den Första Är Alltid Aratis. With its strumming guitar licks and bolder than ever vocals, this new tune sets a festive mood even as it conjures up nostalgic images of simpler, more innocent times.
The video for “Vi Mot Världen” was shot in one uninterrupted long take in central Stockholm, on Götgatan, one of the longest streets in the fashionable Södermalm district. This colourful presentation sees the 30-something artist joining a motley crew of dancer shows for a street party of sorts. Check it out below!
Sweden’s pop starlet Veronica Maggio is back with triumphant new single “Sergles Torg”, once again proving that she is an artist to be reckoned with in contemporary Swedish music. Her last album Satan i Gatan topped the Swedish charts for three weeks straight in 2011 and got millions of streams on Spotify and the new single managed to knock Avicii off the number 1 on iTunes the week of its release!
“Sergels Torg” was co-written and produced by Salem Al Fakir and the result is a sweet, uptempo pop gem, with an intro of ABBA calibre. What’s best about this song is that, much like the rest of Maggio’s already sizable back catalogue, it manages to be melancholic and yet irresistibly uplifting. In other words, this is pure pop bliss!
Just about two years after her sophomore album Och vinnaren är, Swedish pop sweet heart Veronica Maggio is back with a brand new single! Light and summery, this addictive little piece of pop perfection will make you forget that it’s still Winter outside…
Written and produced by Swedish artist du jour Christian Walz, “Jag Kommer” is the first song taken off Maggio’s eagerly awaited forthcoming album Satan i Gatan, which is scheduled for a late Spring release.
In 2006, Veronica Maggio released her first album, called Vatten & Bröd (Water and Bread). The lyrics and music were written by Stefan Gräslund. She won the Award for Newcomer of the Year in the Swedish Grammisgalan.
A couple of years later, in 2009, her single “Måndagsbarn” was released in Scandinavia, earning her considerable success in Denmark and Norway, where it even managed to top the charts and get A-listed on Norwegian radio station NRK P3. As for the album Och vinnaren är… (And the winner is…), it was highly praised by critics across-the-board and broke into the top 40.
