TORA – A FORCE MAJEURE (Alt/Electronica – Australia)

Byron Bay electronic 4-piece Tora relocated from Australia to Amsterdam in 2020 and, since the beginning the year, they have been touring Europe and the US with their latest album, A Force Majeure, which was released in September 2021. A Force Majeure follows 2019’s richly textured sophomore album Can’t Buy The Mood and 2017’s glorious debut album Take A Rest.

Featuring guest spots from vocalists Angie Hudson (“Fire Apartment”), Molly Nicholson (“How Long”) and Asha Franco (“Metanoia”), the new album fully exploits lead singer Jo Loewenthal’s trademark falsetto-laden vocals tones, over a backdrop of downtempo electronica, with hints of synth pop and R&B. Effortlessly blending sophisticated beats, nicely layered synths and the occasional guitar flourish, A Force Majeure builds up on the quartet’s strengths and delivers a very pleasant collection of summery jams to listen to by the pool.
