Three years ago, Brooklyn disco duo Holy Ghost! released their sophomore album Dynamics and they are finally back with a new EP, Crime Cutz, to be released on April 29 via DFA. You have to give it to Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel for bringing back the unadulterated beats of the 80s with ambition and undeniable mastery.
The title track to the upcoming EP, which was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 show, is a seven-minute super funky jam featuring retro synths and incredibly fresh hooks. It gradually builds up to an electrifying crescendo before winding down to a blissful close. A real pop tour de force!
The band is currently touring Australia and will be back in NYC for a live performance at MoMA’s Armory Party in March. More info on their website or Facebook. Buy the music on
Hailing from Byron Bay, Australia, Parcels are a young band, who play a unique form of live electronic disco-funk. Louie Swain, Patrick Hetherington, Noah Hill, Anatole Serret, and Jules Crommelin have been involved in a host of musical projects in the past ranging from folk pop to groove metal and psych rock. The span of their musical influence is diverse: 80’s funk, 90’s hip-hop and current electronica with elements of classical music and jazz also thrown into the mix. Their debut single “Herefore” displays a hip-hop influenced pop sound with an electronic twist. Listen below!
Parcels - Herefore
After months of relentless production Parcels finally released their debut EP Clockscared last March. Recorded in bedrooms, lounge rooms and garage studios, this Extended Play is a first taste of Parcels’ rich sound. Despite a multitude of synths and programmed elements, it retains a live, real tone with the presence of room recorded guitars, vocals and ambient layers.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is an American and New Zealand rock band composed of singer, guitarist and songwriter Ruban Nielson, bassist Jake Portrait and drummer Riley Geare. The band was started by New Zealand-born Ruban Nielson and released their self-titled debut, inspired by insomnia and wild parties, in June 2011 on Fat Possum Records. It was followed by II (2013, Jagjaguwar) which won Best Alternative Album at the New Zealand Music Awards.
Released just a few weeks ago, Multi-Love is the band’s third and most revolutionary full-length to date. In Nielson’s own words, it is an album “about love and music and the world we live in right now. I wrote these songs about you, not about me. It’s not really a navel gazing record, it’s about celebration and the weird truth”.
