HOODLEM – DEBUT EP (Soul/Electro – Australia)

Melbourne-based experimental pop purveyors Hoodlem unveiled their self-titled EP a few months earning accolades from music blogs at home and abroad. Their unique blend of glitchy beats, wonky bass lines and provocative vocals is at its best on the following tracks off the EP: “Kintsungi”, “4 Real” and personal favourite “Old Friend”.

As a bonus, listen below to a brand new track which sees Hoodlem teaming up with Nashville natives BASECAMP to create an infectious mashup of Amerie’s ‘1 Thing’ and Shaggy’s ‘It Wasn’t Me’.

FLUME – SMOKE AND RETRIBUTION (ElectroPop – Australia)

Aussie artist/producer Flume has shared a mind-blowing new tune taken off his soon-to-be-released sophomore album Skin. The song is called “Smoke & Retribution” and it features American Rapper Vince Staples and Perth-based vocalist Kučka.

This new track marks a drastic change of direction for the young artist whose 2013 debut album revolved around downtempo electro beats and pop-influenced hooks. Bolder and sharper, “Smoke and Retribution” shows yet another new side of Flume’s creative self. Over the years, he has managed to broaden his musical horizons through numerous side projects: What So Not (with friend Emoh Instead), Anna Lunoe & Flume, Flume & Chet Faker

HOODLEM – OLD FRIEND (Soul/HipHop – Australia)

If you were looking for some fresh tunes to finish off the weekend, here comes Hoodlem, a new and exciting act from inner-city Melbourne. Hoodlem is an anonymous project who first showed up on our radar in July 2013 with their understated yet soulful debut “Through”.

The song received a fair amount of love from music blogs at home and abroad, but that’s nothing compared to their newest single “Old Friend”, which has already racked up almost 200,000 plays on SoundCloud. Blending delicate vocals, pulsing minimalist beats, and plucky guitars, all tightly held together with unassuming elegance, “Old Friend” is just the kind of slow-burning killer track that will play on repeat in your head for hours after you first heard it.

If you like what you hear, you should definitely check out Hoodlem’s recently posted cover of NSYNC’s early noughties hit “Girlfriend”. This grown-up version of the boy band’s classic tune is available for streaming and free download now!

Hoodlem - Girlfriend (NSYNC Cover)

Hoodlem will be performing live at HillyDilly’s CMW showcase in May, sharing stage with fellow Aussie four-piece Sons et Al. and Nashville’s own Basecamp. Show your support on their Facebook. Buy the music on Bandcamp.

Nashville-based trio Basecamp is the result of a collaboration between Aaron Miller, Aaron C. Harmon and Jordan Reyessaw, three producers who joined forces in early 2013 to write a genre-busting slab of tunes fusing influences from R&B, electronica, soul and EDM.

Basecamp - 2 Thingz

Combining haunting melodies, soulful vocals thumping bass lines and glitch percussion patterns, Basecamp effortlessly layer unpredictable tempo changes with carefully crafted beats and lush live strings. They mesh seemingly incongruous musical textures to create beautiful tension throughout their self-titled debut EP.

Basecamp - Rydia (Umstrum Radio Edit)

Bonus track: treat yourself to an excellent remix of the track “Emmanuel” courtesy of young Paris-based producer Stwo. Download the remix for free HERE.
