XAN YOUNG – HONEST (Pop/Electro – US)

Having spent years embedded in collaborative projects, Brooklyn-based artist Xan Young is now flying solo, with a project that represents his unadulterated voice, the product of years of maturation in experimental pop and club music.

Sonically, his new track “Honest” thumps with a driving bassline topped by crystalline soulful vocals and waves of blazing synthesizers. Young showcases his talent as both a songwriter and producer on this new release.

LADI6 – ROYAL BLUE 3000 (Trap/Soul – New Zealand)

Ladi6

Active since the early 2000s, Christchurch-born purveyor of genre-bending soul hip-hop Ladi6 started out in all-girl crew Sheelahroc, but quickly made a name for herself with her sophisticated combination of sultry vocals, razor sharp beats and cosmic synths.

After a long silence, Ladi6 has shared “Royal Blue,” taken from the highly anticipated Royal Blue 3000 EP. This electronic-tinged yet soulful track is an interesting take on dancehall grooves with a twist.

On the EP, producers Parks and Brandon Haru have managed to expand on Ladi6’s sound by pairing minimalist atmospheric beats with warm, heartfelt vocals. The result sounds fresh and new despite its clear nods to early funk and hip-hop.

VÖK – FIGURE (Alt/Electro – Iceland)

Following two critically acclaimed EPs Tension (2013) and Circles (2015), Icelandic alternative electro band Vök will release their highly anticipated debut album Figure on April 28 via Nettwerk Records. Mostly written in their home studio and recorded with producer and Jack Garratt collaborator Brett Cox, the album sees the Reykjavík-based band taking their sound to new heights.

With influences ranging from from The Weeknd’s intimist RnB to Little Dragon‘s quirky electronica, Figure spans a whole spectrum of emotions and sounds, full of distorted pulses, near-whispered melodies, echoing guitars and dreamy hooks.

Vök took their time to deliver this first album but they are now ready to share it with their fans and the four-piece will be touring extensively throughout 2017 to bring it clubs and concert halls across Europe (Netherlands, Germany, Poland, France, UK and more).

HOODLEM – DEBUT EP (Soul/Electro – Australia)

Hoodlem

Melbourne-based experimental pop purveyors Hoodlem unveiled their self-titled EP a few months earning accolades from music blogs at home and abroad. Their unique blend of glitchy beats, wonky bass lines and provocative vocals is at its best on the following tracks off the EP: “Kintsungi”, “4 Real” and personal favourite “Old Friend”.

As a bonus, listen below to a brand new track which sees Hoodlem teaming up with Nashville natives BASECAMP to create an infectious mashup of Amerie’s ‘1 Thing’ and Shaggy’s ‘It Wasn’t Me’.
