MARCUS MARR & CHET FAKER – WORK EP (Electronica – Australia)

Marcus Marr & Chet Faker

Australian neo-soul singer Chet Faker and South London DJ-producer Marcus Marr have teamed up on a new collaborative EP released last December on Chet Faker’s own label Detail Records.

The four-song EP is the product of a very fruitful four-day recording session in London. Pairing the soulful vocals of Nick Murphy (aka Faker) with Marr’s funky bass lines and futuristic soundscapes, singles “The Trouble With Us” and “Birthday Card” are two fun-filled cheeky tunes that merge edgy dance and pop-infused R&B.

The new EP is billed as the first official Chet Faker release since his hugely successful debut album, Built On Glass, but the Aussie wunderkind is currently hard at work on the follow-up album at his new studio HQ in Brooklyn.

CHET FAKER – BEND (Electronica – Australia)

An artist of considerable range, Melbourne-raised Brooklyn-based artist Chet Faker released his chart-topping critically acclaimed debut album Built On Glass last year on Future Classic / Downtown. After announcing a string of concerts (most of them already sold out), he has decided to extend his East Coast Aussie tour to include an additional show at the Sydney Opera House in November. These shows, dubbed the Built On Live tour, will see Faker perform rarely heard live songs, with an expanded band and special guests.

In other news, Chet Faker also shared previously unreleased track “Bend”, which was recorded during the Built on Glass writing period. He is now working on new material holed up in a studio in Brooklyn and aiming for a more “heavily performance-based” sound for his second studio album.

LITTLE DRAGON – PRETTY GIRLS (Electronica – Sweden)

Little Dragon (by Marco Van Rijt)

Swedish outfit Little Dragon released their fourth studio album in May 2014 to overwhelmingly positive reviews. Out on Loma Vista Recordings, Nabuma Rubberband includes twelve brand new tracks and features collaborations with Dave from De La Soul and Robin Hannibal.

One of the album’s standout tracks “Pretty Girls” was recently remixed by Australian artist Chet Faker, who puts a clubbier spin on this slow jam. Warping Yukimi Nagano’s vocals in layers of synths, atmospheric bass pulses and hysterical beats, the Aussie producer reinvents the song and takes things to the dark side with this smoky, sweaty reinterpretation.

CHET FAKER – BUILT ON GLASS (Alt/Electro – Australia)

Chet Faker

An artist of considerable range, Melbourne-raised Brooklyn-based artist Chet Faker writes, performs and records all of his own music, giving it a warm, intimate feel with a solid groove structure. His critically acclaimed, debut full length album Built On Glass was released on Future Classic / Downtown in April 2014. The album was the highly anticipated follow up to his acclaimed 2012 EP Thinking in Textures and Lockjaw, his 3-song EP with fellow Australian producer Flume, released in late 2013.

Chet Faker won five ARIA Awards including Best Male Artist, Producer of the Year, and Best Independent Album. He also took the #1 spot on the Triple J, and the critics from The Guardian named him one of their “artists to watch” in 2015, among other accolades.
