VACATIONER – GOOD AS NEW (Synth/DreamPop – US)

Formed in early 2011 as a side project for singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kenny Vasoli, Vacationer is a unique combination of hypnotic electronic beats, soft vocals and serenity-inducing sonic arrangements. Think of it as Beach House meets the Balearic vibe of Washed Out, sprinkled with the playfulness of Body Language.

Following the success of his critically acclaimed debut full-length Gone, Vasoli is back with a 6-track remix EP for latest single “Good As New”, released via Downtown Records. The EP features reworks by the likes of Data Romance, Silent Rider, Les Professionnels, Shotgun Wedding, Geographer and Ghost Beach.

For the record, Vacationer previously released a compilation of remixes for the single “Trip”, which featured some pretty amazing productions, including a blissful dreamy remix by Teen Daze.

PORTRAIT – SYMPHONY OF ERRORS (DreamPop – US)

Portrait is the brainchild of a San Francisco producer and photographer. Portrait’s debut album, Symphony of Errors, captures “the colours of our endless, and often solitary, search for truth in life, love, and relationship”. The artist describes this 9-track album as “RnB and dubstep making love in a chillwave hot tub”.

Portrait’s production palette sits comfortably between Aphex Twin’s ambient work, Telefon Tel Aviv, Depeche Mode, James Blake, M83 and Phaeleh. He perfectly combines these influences into a textured spectrum of emotions, a natural continuation of a life-long love affair with synth sounds and intimate photography.

JJ – HIGH SUMMER (DreamPop/Balearic – Sweden)

For the past three years, Swedish duo jj (Elin Kastlander and Joakim Beno) have been releasing mixtapes and EPs showcasing their quirky blend of dream pop with hints of hip hop and R&B. Their latest offering is the High Summer EP, released through Gothenburg-based label Sincerely Yours (founded by The Tough Alliance).

The five-track release is a nice piece of delicate pop that invites you to enjoy the gentle sounds of summer. It is both carefree without carelessness, and unassuming without being lazy. NYC newcomers Noosa are Sky Barbarick and Matt Buszko, two artists who combine folksy acoustic numbers and synth-heavy jams with equal brio. Their self-released debut EP is a five-track journey across the musical spectrum which clearly underlines the duo’s versatility. You can stream the whole thing now on SoundCloud.

Beach House

After weeks of rumours and wild conjectures, Baltimore duo Beach House are finally sharing a first taste of their fourth studio album, Bloom, due for release on May 11th via Mistletone Records/Inertia. Expectations are pretty high for this new LP, especially after the success of the duo’s 2010 album, Teen Dream, which spawned a few memorable singles and remixes.

Beach House’s new single “Myth” was recorded in late 2011 at Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo, TX and mixed at Electric Lady in NYC. The song’s spiraling guitars and gentle drums provide a velvet lining for Victoria’s warm vocals.

The album that will follow in May was largely designed on the road, during two years of tour. Throughout this period, melodies, chords, rhythms, words, and textures surfaced in moments of their own choosing. These spontaneous ideas were later gathered and developed in Baltimore, with Chris Coady as co-producer.
