ANA TIJOUX – LA BALA (Rap/HipHop – Chile)

Ana Tijoux

Chilean rapper and singer Ana Tijoux initially established herself in the Latin American hip-hop scene as the female MC of undergound group Makiza in the late ’90s. In 2007 she released her solo debut, Kaos, taking Latin rap to a whole new level of artistry. Two years later Ana’s critically-acclaimed sophomore album 1977 was a bold return to her rap roots and a tribute to the “golden age of hip-hop”.

Ana’s latest album, La Bala, was released in 2011 via Nacional Records. It features collaborations with Jorge Drexler, Curumin, Javier Barria, Los de la Aldea (…) and is further proof, if any was needed, that Tijoux knows her stuff! She sings and raps like nobody else out there, bringing power to every single word and shaping them into something bigger than the sum of its parts.

C2C – DOWN THE ROAD (Jazz/HipHop – France)

C2C is a French turntable act helmed by 20Syl, Greem, Atom and Pfel. Active since 1998, the combo is part of an emerging movement called “scratch music” (or turntablism), where each member uses his turntable as an instrument, recreating in turn drums or bass, scratching a riff of guitar or adding some sax…

C2C - F·U·Y·A

After winning the Disco Mix Club championship four times in a row from 2003 to 2006, C2C decided to expand into original music production. What you will hear below is the title track from their five-track EP Down The Road, released last January.

C2C may not be a household name yet but their unique mix of hip hop, jazz and electronica has enough oomph to woo electro music enthusiasts the world over. Check out their tribute to Louis Armstrong, a fully scratched up rendition of “Mack the Knife”.

London beatboxer (and singer!) Faith SFX teams up with rapper Black The Ripper on this unbelievably good rework of Frank Ocean’s 2011 hit “Good Swim”. And in case you were wondering everything you hear was recorded using voice only.

This cover also uses elements from The Firm’s “Affirmative Action” and Dr Dre’s “Still Dre”. Mix it all up and you get a winning combination!
