On the heels of her hit single “Vi Mot Världen”, Swedish songstress Veronica Maggio released her fifth studio album, Den första är alltid gratis, last month on May 6th. The title track, which can be translated as “The First One is Always Free”, was unveiled in late March and supported by a video directed by Andreas Öhman.
On the new album, Maggio breaks new ground both in terms of songwriting and production. She describes the lyrics as being more honest and personal and significantly darker than her previous material. Together with some of Sweden’s best producers and songwriters, she has translated her vision into a coarser and more distorted sound with clear pop sensibilities. Long-time collaborators Salem Al Fakir and Magnus Lidehäll return for three co-writes with Vincent Pontare and new recruits include Niki and the Dove, Klas Gullbrand amd Petter Winnberg.
Veronica Maggio is confirmed to play at Stockholms Stadion in August. More info on her official site or Facebook. Buy on
“Made Of” was first recorded in 2012 by Swedish electro/house band Nause and became a major hit in Sweden. However the version featured here is a complete rework by the hand of fellow Swedish artist Viola Martinsson and it is a far cry from the danceable euro beat of the original song.
Viola Martinsson - Made Of
This dreamy, ethereal cover of “Made Of” was recorded specifically to be used as the music theme for the Volvo campaign “Made by People”. There is no official video for the song but you can watch the long version of the ad below.

Released in Sweden as a digital download on 2 May, the song is the third and last teaser before the release of Maggio’s highly anticipated fifth studio album Den Första Är Alltid Aratis. With its strumming guitar licks and bolder than ever vocals, this new tune sets a festive mood even as it conjures up nostalgic images of simpler, more innocent times.
The video for “Vi Mot Världen” was shot in one uninterrupted long take in central Stockholm, on Götgatan, one of the longest streets in the fashionable Södermalm district. This colourful presentation sees the 30-something artist joining a motley crew of dancer shows for a street party of sorts. Check it out below!

Swedish trio Wildhart only have a few singles under their belt and yet they have already managed to attract media attention for their sparse, atmospheric tunes which have already seen comparisons to other Scandinavian acts like Little Dragon and Niki & The Dove. Unveiled last month, “We Made Up a Dream” is taken off EP1, which was recorded by the band in keyboardist Kiwi Berg’s basement and subsequently mixed and mastered in Little Dragon’s own studio.
Once again breaking new musical ground, this song finds Wildhart in a more melancholic mood. Icy, ethereal electronics offer a cinematic backdrop for vocalist Ylva’s delicate vocals and, combined with some top-notch pop songwriting and polished beats, “We Made Up A Dream” is another great track from Wildhart’s exciting debut.
