Matthew Jordan Hemerlein, better known by the stage name Lo-Fang, is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. A classically trained musician, he plays the piano, cello, guitar and violin on his debut album, Blue Film, released in 2014 via British indie label 4AD.
Lo-Fang - Light Year
Hemerlein conceived and wrote the album while travelling around the world and across the United States over a period of three years. He polished his dreamy, mid-tempo tunes with the help of Gotye producer François Tetaz.

Los Angeles based band Loud Forest is fronted by married couple Bernard and Rachel Chadwick. Equally matched as singers and performers, they craft an eclectic mix of songs that can both swirl and drive, minimal rock drums and melodic singing is supported by electric guitars and textures that create a sonic landscape while infusing classic folk and gospel elements.
Bernard and Rachel have very different styles of songwriting, Rachel is abstract and experimental while Bernard is more direct. It is in the studio collaborating with other talented musicians, Alex Strahle, Carlen Walth and Steve Wilmot, that the pieces come together.

Los Angeles based French-American duo Freedom Fry are sharing more dancey tunes from their recently released EP, Strange Attraction. This new release veers away from the alt-folk of their previous works to venture into indie-pop, full of glowing synth lines, funky guitars and catchy vocals.
On “Party Down”, the mood is festive and you will have a hard time not tapping your feet (or even singing along). Marie Seyrat and Bruce Driscoll’s perfectly complementary vocal interplay adds to the overall very polished production. This track is definitely a well-crafted pop song that’s hard to get enough of, and luckily there’s more where this came from with Strange Attraction‘s title track.

Multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene, aka Washed Out, has been making music out of his home studio in Georgia for close to 10 years. His album Mister Mellow was released a few months ago on Stones Throw Records, accompanied by a visual album on DVD.
Conceived over the course of 2 years, Mister Mellow is intensely personal (Greene’s only collaborator was mix engineer Cole MGN) – but the ideas and observations found within the album speak to a much larger shared experience that is affecting an entire generation. The album was influenced by old classics as well as the experimental collage techniques of musique concrète. Styles as diverse as free jazz, house, hip-hop and psych are combined together to create a busy, chaotic mix.
