23-year-old singer Dequine has been making funky pop music from her native Kazakhstan since 2018. Her first EP Пьяная вишня (Drunken Cherry) received more than a million views on Vkontakte and became very popular in Kazakhstan and CIS countries. It was followed in June 2020 by her debut album, labum, which was her first release on a major music label (Warner Music Russia).
Since then, Dequine has shared half a dozen singles, all self released, building a solid fan base and cementing her reputation as one of the brightest new artists on the Russian-speaking music scene. Her new song “Deja Vu” is a collaboration with rapper Truwer and its funky guitars and bouncy bass line make it an instant summer anthem.
Released in late 2022, “Матча чай” (“Matcha Tea”) was co-written with producer Nick Rouze, who already worked with her on Labum. The song was inspired by the music of Destiny’s Child, Erykah Badu and significant R&B artists of the 90s and early 00s.
