XUL ZOLAR – HEIDELBACH (Indie/Synth – Germany)

Cologne-based Indie outfit Xul Zolar was founded in 2011 by singer Ronald Röttel and guitar player/keyboardist Marin Geier. The band released their first official single “Hex” in 2013 and their first EP, Tides, in 2015, showing off the wide-ranging influences of the band’s members.

They recently shared their sophomore album, Heidelbach, a 12-song album recorded and produced in Cologne with the assistance of producer duo Marius Bubat and Georg Conrad, also known as COMA. The LP was released via Asmara Records/Rough Trade in March 2023, further illustrating the band’s unique ability to turn melancholia into captivating indie pop.

The band gave their fans a first taste of the new album with the release of “Protocol” in late 2022. This was followed by a second single, “Underwater” (February 2023), a dark, pulsating synth pop anthem, and the final teaser, “Tell Me”, a vivid dreampop song. Stream them below!
