SIGUR RÓS – TAKK (PostRock/Electronica – Iceland)

Sigur Rós are an Icelandic post-rock band formed in 1994 by . They hail from the same creative and vibrant Icelandic music scene as múm and Amiina. Their debut album Von (Hope) was released in 1997, followed by a remix collection, Von Brigði, in 1998. International acclaim came with 1999’s Ágætis byrjun (“An alright start”), which many critics worldwide hailed it as one of the best albums of its time.

The band recently released Takk, their fourth studio album, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Breathtaking orchestrations and startlingly beautiful melodies combine to build a record that will bring out a different mood and emotion with every listen.

Sigur Rós - Saeglopur

Takk is the work of a band operating at the very top of their game, investing pop music with a sense of magic long since lost in the mists of time and imagination. This album is truly original and seems to exist outside common genre definitions, so much so that any comparison seems inappropriate. Takk is an instant classic, and might well turn out to be sigur rós’s masterpiece.

GENERAL ELEKTRIKS – CLIQUETY KLIQK (Electro/Lounge/HipHop – France)

Hervé Salters is the artist behind one-man-band General Elektriks. A French keyboardist with a self-confessed passion for vintage keyboards, Hervé Salters initiated General Electrics just before moving to San Francisco. Using a computer and his oldschool keys, he started sowing together loops, Funky keyboards, light melodies and digital noises.

General Elektriks - Tu m'intrigues

His debut, Cliquety Kliqk, was a collection of 12 retro futuristic pieces where electronica meets hip-hop and funk. The album was first released in France by Bleu Electric, then picked up by Compost for Europe and by Quannum for the US.

Aesthetically, GE is a project that refuses to be classified. A mix of vintage sounds, hip hop beats, dreamy vocals and cinematic arrangements, Cliquety Kliqk embraces all of RV’s musical addictions. Radically new yet strangely familiar, General Electrics is a breath of fresh air in your music collection.

LALI PUNA – ALIENATION (Electronica/Indie – Germany)

Lali Puna

Experimental electronica outfit Lali Puna team up with Portland-based beat maker Alias and the result of this collaboration is an entrancing remix of “Alienation”, taken off Lali Puna’s fantastic new album Faking The Books (Morr Music, 2004).

Lali Puna - Alienation (Alias Remix)

A fine remix by all standards, “Alienation” sublimates the original and perfectly encapsulates the essence of Lali Puna’s music: sobriety and minimalism mixed with intense emotions. The song slowly builds up, one beat at a time, and gently leads you to its breathtaking climax (2’20”).

ENCRE – FLUX (Experimental – France)

Encre

Encre is a project spearheaded by French composer / performer Yann Tambour. His entrancing pieces are built around guitar, sampled instruments and loops but feel strangely organic. Mainly instrumental, these tightly knit collages are dark pieces that conjure up melodies by great masters such as Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, Leonard Cohen or Nick Drake.

Encre - Flux

Flux is the second album by Encre and it includes eight atypical orchestral compositions that are the result of a careful and meticulous creative process. Immersed in this well orchestrated chaos, you might lose track of time and find yourself transported to lands you had never seen before.
